| dc.description.abstract | Práce se bude zabývat interpretací populárního díla Daniela Handlera (Lemony Snicketa) Řada nešťastných příhod (Series of Unfortunate Events) se zaměřením na souvislost mezi zkoumanými příběhy a tradicí anglického gotického románu, v širším ohledu románu s tajemstvím (Botting, Hodrová, Šklovskij). Tomuto teoretickému a literárně historickému kontextu bude věnována úvodní kapitola. Hlavní část práce se soustředí na téma tajemství a to jak v charakteristice postav a otázce lidské povahy, tak i v jednotlivých motivech (např. význam iniciál D.P [V.F.D.], motivy cukřenky, jedu a protijedu) a v celkové atmosféře nejistoty a nebezpečí. Zvláštní pozornost bude věnována i četným intertextovým odkazům. | cze |

| dc.description.abstract-translated | The thesis will deal with interpretation of popular work written by Daniel Handler (Lemony Snicket) Series of Unfortunate Events with focus on a connection between the scrutinised stories and tradition of English Gothic novel, in wider consideration of a novel with mystery (Botting, Hodrová, Šklovskij). This theoretic and literary-historical context will be attended in the opening chapter. The main part focuses on the theme of mystery in the characters' characteristic as well as in the question of human nature and also in particular motifs (e.g. the meaning of initials V.F.D. [D.P.], motifs of the sugar bowl, poison and its antidote) and in the general atmosphere of uncertainty and danger.
